Montserrat

About 50 minutes from our place in Castelldefels is a giant rock that erupts from the ground known as Montserrat. It’s quite striking and as Maddie complained today while hiking there: “the air is too fresh!”

Centuries ago a black carving of Madonna and child was found here and it has become a site of pilgrims. It’s also a nice day trip from Barcelona.

We attended mass and sang some songs. Well, I sang along. Owen who was clearly embarrassed by my singing kept saying “dad no one else is singing let’s go!” I firmly had to remind him that this was my midlife crisis trip and that I will darn well sing as I please where I please.

We then found a nice cave of beautiful candles and the exit for the fortunate pilgrims who were able to scratch the belly of the virgin of Montserrat

Our crew did no belly scratching as everyone was eager to get in the car so they could have screen time and watch the Hunchback of Norte Dame.

After a brief 5 hour car ride we are happily in Madrid until Saturday.
