Fun Venice facts

We learned that the acqua alta or high waters happen around 100 times every year in Venice. They have raised wooden platforms placed all through the city to provide elevated walkways when the floods occur. The lagoon just off of St. Mark’s Square looks like a big ocean but is really shallow and you could cross most of it without even getting your hair wet!
